If you are a cannabis smoker or familiar with the cannabis industry, you must have heard of 4:20. Well, whether you have heard about it before or not, this article will give you details of what is means, its history and some other vital things that are related to it.
Generally, 4:20 refers to a holiday that is meant for celebrating cannabis. As you could have thought, this holiday comes up on April 20th and is often known as the period for smoking pot. Over the years, 4:20 has become an iconic celebration for the majority of pot smokers that want to have and appreciate the culture of cannabis smoking in the country. It is also usually celebrated at 4:20 every day. This year, 4/20 is celebrated the entire month of April since the year is 2020. If 10 years ago we had been told for the entire month of 4/20 we could only leave our house for food and weed, we would have never believed them. But here we are.
How did 4:20 start?
There are various stories about the way 4:20 began. However, the story about how the holiday was started by high school kids seems to be the most generally acceptable and popular.
According to the story, in1971, a few high school students were all staying in San Rafael, California. The group of these students, also called Waldos, would come together at 4:20 pm at the Louis Pasteur statue to smoke and get high. However, it was only around 1990 that the story became known to many individuals when Steve Bloom, a senior editor at High Times magazine, wrote something about it.
Another story about the start of 4:20 is related to the cannabis plant. It is believed that over 400 chemical compounds can be found in the cannabis plant. Nonetheless, it is sometimes assumed that the number 420 represents the number of chemical compounds in the plant; hence, it is the time for celebrating smoking pot.
Of course, one other story says that the 4:20 holiday is concerning the Congress. The California Senate has a bill that is numbered 420 and this bill is sometimes said to be the reason for the exact date of the holiday. However, the bill is not directly promoting pot smoking.
Other stories related to the beginning of the 4:20 holiday include the death of Bob Marley, the birth of Adolf Hitler as well as even the police. Nevertheless, the stories are untrue and also too ridiculous. So, the story about the high school kids is still the most reasonable and acceptable.
Why 4/20 is special in 2020
In the previous years, 4:20 was always celebrated extensively on a single day. However, 2020 is going to be a lot different as the celebration will hold throughout the whole month of April. This is mainly because this is the first year that will be ending in “20” since the celebration began.
It is worthwhile to note that the 4:20 celebration gets different approaches from various individuals. While a few individuals just want to have fun and smoke, others want to come together and discuss the different strains of the plant. Irrespective of the approach to celebrating it, 4:20 is a time for cannabis consumers to appreciate this natural plant.
